A New Take on a Seasoned Tradition in Charlevoix

By Isabelle Labrosse  ·  October 2021

Whether we love fluffy snow days or wish we could hibernate all season long, there’s no denying winter is an inescapable part of living and traveling in Canada. But, this upcoming winter, be prepared for something that might just convince even the most cold-avoiding people among us to enjoy the season. This December, the new Club Med Québec Charlevoix, Canada’s inaugural Club Med resort – and the country’s very first all-inclusive mountain resort – will be welcoming guests in Québec’s magnificent Charlevoix region.

A Long Tradition in Hospitality

Considered the “cradle of resort vacationing in Canada,” Charlevoix has a rich hospitality tradition and has been welcoming travelers in search of beautiful landscapes and a change of scenery for over two centuries. And with good reason. Around 400 million years ago, an epic meteorite impact sculpted the region’s terrain, forming one of the most unique landscapes in the province of Québec. This is a place so remarkable that the Charlevoix crater and surrounding areas were designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1988.

But, for years before that (and to this day), the region’s natural beauty inspired generations of painters, poets, writers, and musicians from across the province and the country. It’s also that creative spirit that has attracted travelers from all over the world. With time, Charlevoix has built an excellent reputation as a place of warm hospitality thanks to the quality of its many resorts, hotels, inns, B&Bs and manors.

Still, today, this rich history lives on with the opening of the country’s first all-inclusive mountain resort on the slopes of Le Massif de Charlevoix.

A Winter Wonderland

A pioneer of the all-inclusive vacation concept, Club Med is adding to its ski properties with its first and only Canadian resort opening on December 3, 2021 – Club Med Québec Charlevoix, located only 90 minutes away from Québec City.

With a design combining a contemporary style and traditional Canadian touches, the resort is spread across 300 acres in the heart of Charlevoix, surrounded by unspoiled nature and overlooking the magnificent St. Lawrence River. With 302 rooms, it offers spacious accommodations designed to echo the region’s character, plus an Exclusive Collection space with 25 luxury suites nestled at the top of the resort.

This December, when snow blankets the region and turns it into a winter wonderland, skiers from beginners to pros will be able to enjoy a ski-in, ski-out experience that includes lift tickets, group ski and snowboard lessons, après-ski activities and more. However, winter in Charlevoix is much more than just a ski vacation. The outdoor fun extends far beyond skiing with à la carte emblematic activities such as ice-skating, dogsledding, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and even sugar shack visits.

And, after a long day of fun in the snow, what better way to unwind than to indulge in the all-new spa concept? With features designed to rejuvenate guests, the Club Med Spa by Sothys includes a sauna as well as a 1,075-square-foot terrace with a jacuzzi overlooking the pristine Charlevoix region inviting guests to connect with Québec’s great outdoors. Nordic spa treatments will also be available, including the signature Cold & Hot Therapy Pathway, which will boost the body’s natural healing abilities after a long day spent carving the slopes.

Whatever you do, make sure you don’t miss Charlevoix’s culinary delights, which are well on display at the resort’s three innovative dining concepts. The main restaurant, Le Marché, features five dining spaces, each celebrating different gastronomical elements of Québec: hunting, fishing, agriculture, foraging, and livestock farming. At Terroir & Co, families will enjoy fondue and raclette, local Québec cheeses, charcuteries, freshly baked cookies, and the famous local maple taffy. Those seeking a more intimate experience will tantalize their taste buds at Le Chalet, a gourmet lounge with a sophisticated bar, wine cellar and gourmet market where guests can purchase local delicacies to bring home.

Rest assured, though, Club Med Québec Charlevoix is not just a destination for winter lovers. In the warmer months, guests can enjoy the region’s ever-changing landscape while biking, hiking, and whale watching – an awe-inspiring activity the region is known for. So, no matter what your favorite season is, Club Med Québec Charlevoix is a great place to experience the local “joie de vivre” and majestic beauty.
