On Location in Australia

Traveling down under is a thrilling adventure made even better by unique experiences offered by our On Location partners. We caught up with Rob Young, Managing Director of The Exclusive Travel Group, to find out the latest on experiential travel.

Q: Tell us about the type of services you offer.

We are a fully serviced destination management company offering services not only across Australia but in New Zealand, the South Pacific and Papua New Guinea as well:

  • itinerary planning
  • reservations
  • special interest arrangements offering unique opportunities
  • a mobile platform for departure documentation
  • travel management
  • a 24 hour concierge support service while clients are traveling

Q: Are there any special features of your services that readers should know about?

We pride ourselves on our attention to detail, our 24 hour support service, which means no hassle travel for our clients, and our dedicated guide/client liaison which for Australia is based in Sydney.

Q: What are some of your personal favorite Australian travel experiences?

  • Tasmania is a definite must do, it surprises and contrasts beautifully with everything else Australia has to offer.
  • Melbourne is a city of surprises, cosmopolitan and yet artisan, definitely worth exploring.
  • The Gawler Ranges Safaris in South Australia are an incredible experience. A visit to Lake Gardiner whist there is a must do.
  • If visiting in later May/early June the Vivid Light show in Sydney is an absolute must for all ages, nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world.

Q: As "Architects of refined experiential travel" what special interests can you cater to?

We’ve never had a request that we’ve not been able to match so pretty much open to any special interest groups. From sport to culture; food and wine to nature, we cover it all.

Q: For sports fans, can you arrange tickets to special sporting events?

Yes we can arrange tickets for the many sporting events Australia is known for. The Melbourne Open and the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix are favorites. Behind the scenes access is also an option for diehard fans.

Q: What about food and wine? What are some of the culinary experiences you can organize?

  • Visits to Tasmania’s famous Oyster farms and artisan cheese makers.
  • Behind the cellar door experiences at some of the Barossa Valley’s top wineries.
  • A day out visiting the farmers and growers on Kangaroo Island sampling local fare

Q: What do you recommend as the best family activities in Australia?

  • Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef
  • A visit to the Healsville Sanctuary reserve in Victoria
  • Kangaroo island
  • Spearing for mud crabs north of Port Douglas.

Q: Tell us about some of the unique accommodations you offer in Australia?

We work with all the well-known properties and tailor each itinerary around specific requirements:

  • Southern Ocean Lodge is a remote, luxury lodge on Kangaroo Island with stunning ocean views and guided adventures to experience ‘Australia’s Galapagos’ first hand.
  • Arrive by helicopter, seaplane or yacht at Hayman Island Resort in the Whitsundays, Queensland. This is the ultimate private island resort close to the Great Barrier Reef.
  • Crystalbrook Lodge in north Queensland is totally unique and offers an insight into the Australian outback whilst staying in style.
  • Saffire Freycinet, Qualia, Wolgan Valley are also world leading properties.

Q: Any tips for those planning to visit Australia?

  • Australia is a year-round destination, but remember, the best time to visit the Northern Territories and Great Barrier reef is between April and October, Northern Hemisphere’s summer.
  • Allow plenty of time – distances are huge – transfers between locations often take a full day.
