Cruising Alaska

With remote ports accessible only by sea or air, Alaska makes an excellent cruise destination. From May through September, cruise ships sail from Vancouver, Seattle and San Francisco to three main areas:

The Inside Passage

  • Sailing the Inside Passage is scenic cruising at its best. This series of channels, bays and fjords along the coast of Alaska and British Columbia provides a constantly changing, but always beautiful panorama.
  • These cruises are seven nights round-trip from Vancouver or Seattle; 10 or 12-days round-trip from San Francisco or between San Francisco and Vancouver.
  • They call at several ports in south-eastern Alaska; Juneau, Ketchikan, Wrangell, Sitka, Skagway, Haines and Icy Strait Point.
  • Victoria BC is a port of call on cruises from Seattle while Victoria and Vancouver BC and Astoria, Oregon may be calls on cruises from San Francisco.
  • See the tidewater glaciers of Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier, or Tracy Arm Fjord for an exciting day on deck.

The Gulf of Alaska

  • In addition to Inside Passage ports and glacier calls, these cruises take you across the Gulf of Alaska. Some sail into College Fjord with its many glaciers.
  • Seven night one-way sailings between Vancouver and the ports of Anchorage - either Seward or Whittier.
  • These sailings combine perfectly with pre and post cruise land tours to see more of Alaska's interior.

Cruising Into the Heart of Anchorage

  • In addition to Inside Passage ports and glacier calls, these cruises may take you to College Fjord, the less visited Kenai Peninsula, Kodiak, Homer and right into the heart of Anchorage.
  • 14-nights round-trip from Seattle or 12-nights between Vancouver and Anchorage.

Exciting news for 2011: Oceania Cruises and Disney Cruise Line will sail to Alaska for the first time while Crystal Cruises returns for the first time since 2005. They join Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Silversea and Regent Seven Seas Cruises for a range of Alaska sailings.

How about visiting Prudhoe Bay in Alaska's Arctic, taking a helicopter over Mt. McKinley or hiking in the remote Copper River region? These amazing adventures can be yours on land tours before or after cruise. They are an excellent way to experience more of Alaska as you venture inland to some spectacular places.

  • The three to thirteen-day tours include transportation by rail, coach or air, sightseeing and accommodation. There are dozens to choose from.
  • Tours range from fully escorted, deluxe tours to "on your own" options with more free time to explore independently.
  • The most popular tour destination is Denali National Park and Preserve. Princess Cruises offers a convenient "Direct-to-the-Wilderness" rail service right from your ship in Whittier to the park without having to stop and change in Anchorage.
  • Tours to the Kenai Peninsula, Denali National Park, Fairbanks, Alaska's Arctic, Copper River and Anchorage are offered in conjunction with cruises that start or end in Anchorage, Seward or Whittier.
  • Holland America offers tours of Canada's Yukon as well as Alaska starting or ending in Skagway. You sail one way between Vancouver and Skagway before or after the tour.

Special Interest Cruisetours

Fishing fans can enjoy a special 14-day cruise vacation package from Princess Cruises which includes excursions to some of Alaska's most famous fishing grounds. Anglers can try their hand at salmon fishing in the Inside Passage from Ketchikan, bottom fishing for halibut near Juneau and river fishing on two Alaskan rivers, the Kenai and Talkeetna.

Another 12-night Princess cruisetour is aimed at families giving them a chance to enjoy family-friendly activities aboard ship and ashore.

Alaska is a truly amazing experience, not to be missed. There are many choices when choosing a cruise or cruisetour in Alaska. We're here to help you select the one that is right for your unforgettable Alaskan adventure.
