Exotic Destinations

Tired of the same old vacation spots and looking for something new? Spread your wings and experience places beyond your comfort zone. Travel to exotic, far away places brings many rewards and can be a life changing experience. Take a look at these diverse destinations – Africa, Dubai and the Islands of the South Pacific.

The African Safari

Safari means adventure and few places conjure up as many exciting images as a safari in Africa. Game viewing today is easy throughout the Eastern and Southern continent in some of the world's finest parks and game reserves.

  • Escorted safaris range from weekends away in South Africa's Kruger Park to lengthy tours of several countries. You'll travel in comfort by staying in luxury camps and lodges, or choose more basic accommodation for added adventure.
  • Kenya's Aberdare National Park is home to the renowned game viewing lodges, Treetops and the Ark. This is a wonderful way to observe animals in their natural habitat right from your hotel. The animals come to you, day and night.
  • Game can be seen year round but avoid the wet seasons. The long and short rains will really dampen your experience and you probably won't see so much.
  • The annual migrations of zebra and wildebeest in Tanzania's Serengeti Plains are spectacular. These take place heading north to south in October and November and back south to north between April and June. There is no fixed timetable however, as the animals migrate according to rainfall patterns.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The 'Pearl of the Persian Gulf', Dubai is an innovative and cosmopolitan city. Here in the desert, a traditional past meets a modern-day hi-tech, commercial centre. Dubai's fast growth has been likened to Las Vegas. There's plenty to see and do both in and out of town. Here are some examples:

  • The Burj Al Arab is the landmark of modern Dubai. Built on an artificial island, this five star hotel is shaped like a sail. The platform at 321 meters has been the venue for some thrilling sporting events. Enjoy amazing views at the skyview bar. There are many other modern resorts in Dubai with excellent restaurants and nightlife as well as white sandy beaches. Children will love the Wild Wadi Arabian themed waterpark.
  • In the areas of Bur Dubai, Jumeirah and Deira, there are many historical buildings and museums including the Dubai Museum, Grand Mosque, a dhow wharfage from 1830, an archaeological site and Heritage House, the home of a wealthy pearl merchant built from coral and gypsum. For a peaceful getaway visit the historical town of Hatta with its stunning views of the Hajar Mountains.
  • Dubai is the jumping off point for some very active adventure. Go desert driving, sand boarding, camel riding or dine among the dunes. Explore the Persian Gulf states on G.A.P. Adventures' Arabian Seatrek or aboard RCI's Brilliance of the Seas, based here each winter.
  • The modern shopping malls are outstanding but don't miss the traditional markets, especially Gold Souk selling everything from ingots to intricate jewellery.

The Islands of the South Pacific

Paradise Found! Unspoiled beaches, peaceful lagoons and dramatic mountains — the beauty of this region is legendary. It has seduced travellers and inspired artists and writers for centuries and you can be there too.

Tranquil and contenting, with plenty of sunshine all year round, these islands provide an idyllic setting for getting away from it all.

  • Numerous island chains are dotted across the vast expanse of the South Pacific, ready to welcome those wanting a peaceful retreat for their vacation. Most easily accessible from North America are Fiji, the Cook Islands and Tahiti.
  • There's plenty of adventure from off road jeep excursions to hiking, snorkelling, sailing and parasailing. Fish for marlin on a deep sea fishing cruise. See sting ray and shark feeding or swim with dolphins.
  • Overwater bungalows are a luxurious accommodation option. You'll see colourful fish swimming in the lagoon beneath the glass floor. Swim or snorkel right from your private deck. Relax on your terrace and enjoy a tropical breakfast delivered by outrigger canoe.
  • The rich cultural heritage of Polynesia and Micronesia add to the vacation experience while history buffs will find much to learn as they explore the region. Follow in the footsteps of Captain Cook, Robert Louis Stevenson, Paul Gauguin and the Bounty mutineers.

These are just three exotic destinations we can help you plan and discover. Maybe it's time to get farther away to a place that will truly amaze you.
