Q: What do you consider Alaska's top highlights not to be missed?
Quintessential Alaskan highlights include various types of glaciers depending on the region visited; calving tidewater glaciers, alpine glaciers for walking, trekking, flightseeing over the Icefield, these are experiences you don't want to miss.
Along with glaciers, you won't want to miss a bear viewing adventure often combined with a floatplane flight, salmon fishing, whale watching, Dog Sledding on a glacier. Glacier Bay National Park or Denali National Park both offer wonderful opportunities for wildlife viewing so are definitely worth a visit.
Q: Tell us about new programs you are offering for 2017.
Ever land on a mountaintop next to remote mountain sheep, or on a riverbed to check out a grizzly bear? That is how we roll!
In 2017 new experiences will include:
- Viewing the Northern Lights
- Hiking and kayaking among icebergs and glaciers
- A huge assortment of adventures available from the light aircraft that are used from Ultima Thule Lodge.
We have also launched new partnerships with various lodges and outfitters that we've hand selected across Alaska. New lodge partners include:
- Ultima Thule Lodge
- Still Point Lodge
- Lodge at Black Rapids.
Q: Which shore excursions for cruise ship passengers are the most popular?
The most popular tours are:
- Dog Sledding on the glacier via Helicopter in Juneau
- A fishing and camp dining experience
- An up- close Marine Wildlife Adventure in Sitka
- Kayaking with a Misty Fjords National Monument
- Flightseeing in Ketchikan
- Deep Sea Ocean Salmon Fishing in Sitka
- Rafting through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve
- Riding the White Pass Rail from Skagway
- Fly Out Fly Fishing and Bear Viewing in Juneau and Ketchikan.
Q: How about pre and post-cruise extensions? What do you recommend this year?
We suggest a visit to an exclusive backcountry Lodge located 50 minutes by floatplane from Anchorage; a lovely compliment for cruise ship passengers with plenty of opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast and nature lover paired with delicious gourmet Alaskan meals.
For those with limited time on land, we also suggest a 4 to 5 night, pre or post trip to Denali National Park. Guests can enjoy the Alaska railroad and take in the amazing scenery in the interior region of Alaska and hope for a glimpse of Denali along with spotting wildlife inside the park.
Q: Tell us about some of the outdoor sports and activities you can arrange for visitors.
Outdoor sports and activities we arrange in Alaska are endless! We can assist with:
- Trekking on a glacier
- Packrafing a river in the Denali area
- Zip lining through the tundra
- Kayaking in a glacier fed lake

Q: Which wildlife adventures do you find visitors enjoy most?
Bear Viewing is probably at the top of the list for most visitors along with Whale Watching and wildlife viewing in Denali National Park.
Q: What is it like staying at one of your wilderness lodges?
It offers our guests the opportunity to unplug and unwind and experience wilderness but still enjoy comfortable, luxurious accommodations, professional outdoor guides offering support and adventure, delicious Alaskan meals and hopefully some very soulful moments that become unforgettable. All wrapped up with the authentic care and hospitality of our supplier partners.
Q: Tell us about the top culinary experiences in Alaska?
We are happy to partner with Tutka Bay Lodge in the Kachemak Bay region of Alaska which has a cooking school and offers private culinary classes along with delicious meals prepared for our Lodge guests. Kirsten, the owner, attended culinary school at the Cordon Bleu in Paris, and holds a master's degree in gastronomy. She won an award for Best Female Chef in Alaska for the Winterlake Lodge Cookbook at the Gourmet International Cookbook Awards in 2004. Together with her daughter, Mandy, who was recently a featured chef at the James Beard House in New York, provide cooking instructions at Tutka Bay Lodge and beautifully prepared meals at both Winterlake Lodge and at Tutka Bay Lodge.
